17 residents displaced after fire at apartment complex in Carrboro

— A fire ripped through an apartment building in Carrboro Saturday night that left several apartments damaged and 17 people unable to sleep at home.

The Carrboro Fire Department said the call came in about a fire at the complex on Rock Haven Road around 8 p.m.

The complex suffered damage to two floors.

4 apartments suffered fire damage, while another 4 suffered smoke damage.

The severity of this damage is unknown, but 17 residents were displaced by the damage.

The Red Cross is assisting to get these residents placed into beds for the night.

Fire officials said one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Crews from multiple fire departments, including Chapel Hill, White Cross and North Chatham County, assisted to contain the fire well into Saturday evening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and it is not know if or when these residents will be able to safely return.
