Wake County Sheriff’s Office sets up command at Apex high school in search for missing 71-year-old man

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing 71-year-old man and set up a command post at an Apex high school Friday morning.

The sheriff’s office is searching for 71-year-old Cecil Olive, who is believed to have dementia or Alzheimer’s.

He is 6 ft tall, 160 pounds, has grey and white hair, and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and black sweatpants/shorts. There have been reports of possible sightings around Evans Road and Grouse Trail.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Wake County deputies responded to a report of a missing person in the 8900 block of Barker Road in New Hill. Deputies immediately started searching on foot.

Friday at 12:20 a.m., the N.C. Center for Missing Persons issued the silver alert.

With the help of Wake County Emergency Management, Cary Fire Department and Western Wake Fire, they are searching by foot, with help from the K-9 team. They’re also searching for Olive by drone and by car. 

There is currently an active search and command center near Apex Friendship High School.
