A family is looking for answers Tuesday after an e-bike crash killed two people days earlier in Wilson.
Just after 5 a.m. Thursday, the Wilson Police Department said 42-year-old Charise Dickerson and 49-year-old Jason Williams, both of Wilson, were riding an e-bike on Tilghman Road when Collin McLaughlin, 22, of Wilson, hit them on Tilghman Road.

Wilson police said it is a continuing investigation, but McLaughlin is not facing any charges or a citation at this point.
McLaughlin’s driving record dates back to at least 2022. He has been pulled over five times.
- Sept. 9, 2022 – Reckless Driving; 95 mph in 45 mph zone.
- Aug. 8, 2023 – Speeding; 90 mph in 55 mph zone, pleaded down to 64 mph in 55 mph zone.
- March 21 – Speeding; 75 mph in 55 mph zone.
- May 8 – Fail to stop at steady red light.
- June 10 – Speeding; 63 mph in 45 mph zone.
The citations were issued in Franklin, Nash and Wilson Counties. In each instance, the initial citation or charge was downgraded to a lesser offense, resulting in either a warning, a fine or both. According to court records, McLaughlin has been charged $713 for these offenses.
According to a report to the Wilson Times, McLaughlin has familial ties to local law enforcement. His father is a Captain with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. WRAL is working to independently confirm this information, but has not heard back from WCSO.
WRAL has sought more information from Wilson Police about the investigation:
- Did McLaughlin show signs of impairment after the crash?
- Was a field sobriety test conducted?
- Why wasn’t he arrested or cited for the crash?
The Wilson Police Department says the investigation is still ongoing, and as soon as there is an update, the original press release will be updated.
In posts online, Dickerson’s mother is seeking more information and wants justice for her daughter.
